Ward seals Abel loan deal - EXCLUSIVE

Wednesday 23rd January 2008

RAMSGATE manager Jim Ward has tonight completed the loan signing of Damian Abel from their Ryman Premier League rivals Folkestone Invicta, writes Stephen McCartney.

The 25-year-old former Hythe Town striker will be drafted into Ramsgate’s squad - to play out wide - for the visit of Harrow Borough on Saturday.

The deal comes at the same time as Folkestone Invicta boss Neil Cugley signed striker Lloyd Blackman from Blue Square South strugglers Welling United.

Speaking about Abel, Ward, speaking EXCLUSIVELY to www.kentishfootball.co.uk is pleased to have found his ideal player.

He said: “He’s a good wide player and I’ve been on the look out for a good wide player for a while.

“We’ll give him a go here and see how he gets on.”

Ward added: “He’s got plenty of enthusiasm, he delivers a good ball and he’s local - he lives in Folkestone. It’s only down the road.”

But Cugley hasn’t ruled out Abel returning to Cheriton Road.

“Damo was fed up of not playing and I can understand that at his age and he needs to be playing regular football,” he explained to www.folkestoneinvicta.co.uk.

“I’m pleased he has gone to Ramsgate because it would’ve been very easy for him to have just dropped down back into the Kent League and to have taken the easy option but he wants to carry on playing at this standard of football.

“If he does well at Ramsgate then we will certainly look to take him back as I think he is a good player.

“Ramsgate play a different system to us and playing out wide more regularly might suit him and improve his confidence.”

Ramsgate were defeated 3-1 at AFC Hornchurch last weekend and Ward wants his side to bounce back as pressure for the play-off places intensifies.

“We were superb for the first 40 minutes and then the light went out and we just didn’t come down for the second half,” said a disappointed Ward.

“They’re a strong side, they’re a good side and their sixth in the league. Whoever slips up they’ll get into the play-off’s. Hopefully it’s not us that slips up.”

And on Harrow Borough’s visit to Southwood Stadium, Ward added: “We’re at home and we’re good at home. We just have to go on the front foot and get at them from the start. That really is it. It’s the base of what we do and when we’re on song we’re a very good side.”

Ward revealed that he has no injury worries ahead of this game.
