Ward pleased with Rams' opening match fitness levels - EXCLUSIVE

Wednesday 11th July 2007

Ramsgate boss Jim Ward was pleased with his players’ fitness and attitudes after holding a strong Gillingham side to a goalless draw at Southwood Stadium tonight, writes Stephen McCartney.

“It was a lively game, we done well,” Ward said EXCLUSIVELY to www.kentishfootball.co.uk after their first outing of the new season.

“We had as many chances as they did - we’re pleased, a good run out for the boys.

“I played eleven in the first half, and except for Ollie Schulz, who played seventy minutes, I played a different eleven in the second half.”

Speaking about their opponents, League One side Gillingham, Ward said: “They had five or six lads who would be regulars and three or four that have played in the first team, an then he had four trialists - a strong side.

“When you play against League clubs, you can’t get carried away. I was pleased with our levels of fitness and very pleased with our attitude.”

An official attendance of 516 was pleasing for the Ryman Premier League club.

Ward added: “Just pleased, a good night, a good crowd - the chairman’s got a smile on his face.”
