Ward aims to take Rams to Cup Final - EXCLUSIVE
RAMSGATE boss Jim Ward is aiming to guide the Thanet club to it’s first ever Ryman League Cup Final tomorrow night, writes Stephen McCartney.
Ward takes his side to the banks of the River Thames in Surrey to play Division One South outfit Walton Casuals in a bid to lock horns with Heybridge Swifts (Premier) or AFC Sudbury (One North) in the final.
And that final is expected to be played at Dartford’s Princes Park Stadium on Wednesday, 2nd April.
“It doesn’t matter where the final’s being played, I don’t think Ramsgate have ever been to this final at this level before - so it could be the biggest day in Ramsgate’s history,” Ward said EXCLUSIVELY to www.kentishfootball.co.uk on the eve of the semi-final clash.
“They’re at home, I’ve seen them a couple of times and they’re not a bad side.
“As we’re a premier side we go into the game as favourites but this Ryman League has chucked some strange things but we’ll go there and have a go.”
Despite being in ninth place in the Ryman Premier League table - only three points adrift of the final play-off berth - Ward hasn’t ruled anything out.
He said: “We’re down in ninth now we have to go on a great run to get there - never say never.”
But winning the Ryman League Cup would be welcomed by the Ward brothers.
“That would do us, thank you very much,” said Jim Ward. “We are a club that’s been fortunate for the last four or five years since me and Danny’s been back to win things.
“But we’re not certain to go there and win. You can only give it your best shot. We will be properly organised and hope that you’re better than the team you’re facing.”
“This will keep us going. If we get ourselves to a Cup Final, everybody wants to play in a Cup Final so it does keep the season alive.”
