Walker tells his side to stay clear of relegation zone

MAIDSTONE UNITED joint-manager Alan Walker has today unveiled the signing of versatile teenager Taylor Sinfield, formerly of Coca-Cola Championship club Charlton Athletic.

Walker, speaking to www.maidstoneunited.co.uk said, “We have signed Taylor Sinfield who has recently been released from Charlton Athletic.

“Taylor is 18-years-old and was recommended to us by a couple of people. He can play in midfield or at the back and will be a useful acquisition as we are a bit short on players in such positions at the moment.”

The Stones’ midweek home game against Harrow Borough was postponed, due to a waterlogged pitch, and Walker described his emotions when that game fell victim to the conditions.

He said: “It was very frustrating that our game on Wednesday night was postponed and we did feel deflated when we heard the news.

“However, the weather was atrocious on Tuesday night and if the game had by some miracle gone ahead, the pitch would have been in such a state that the match would not have been at all entertaining so at least with luck we will see a decent game tomorrow.”

Walker is referring to Horsham’s visit to Bourne Park. The Hornets are now eighth in the Ryman Premier League table with 42 points from 29 games - just two places and a point better than the Stones.

And Walker sees this as a game that can end his side’s barren ten game run without a win.

“We have not been scoring enough goals recently and so we are considering changing our formation and shaking this up a bit as we clearly need to do something,” he said.

“We have spent a lot of time recently working on our finishing and we have been encouraging the boys to have a go when they get close to goal and not always take the safe option.

“It has been some time now since we last won a game and there is always a worry about our position until we become mathematically safe.

“However, we are a lot better prepared this year in terms of personal and I would expect us to be ok and not get dragged into a relegation battle.

“But if we were to lose a couple of key people for a while then we could start to struggle, although I would be surprised if that ends up being the case.”
