Wakeling aiming for cup success

Thursday 16th February 2006

George Wakeling is gunning for Kent Senior Cup glory after his side were handed a home semi-final tie with Ramsgate, reports www.bromleytimes.co.uk

The Ravens boss has already led the Hayes Lane club to two previous successes in the competition in his first spell in charge during the 1990s and is keen to complete the hat-trick.

"It would be nice to win it for the third time and would be a perfect reward for our fans who have stuck by us recently," he added.

The eagerly anticipated visit of Ramsgate must take place before the end of March with the winners set to face either Gravesend & Northfleet or Margate in the final.

"We've been drawn at home and that is all you can ask for. We are also in the quarter-finals of the League Cup and again have home advantage in that against Wealdstone on Tuesday, so we have a great chance of silverware this season."

Bromley extended their recent unbeaten run to four games on Saturday with a 1-1 home draw with Harrow Borough.

Adrian Stone fired them ahead midway through the first half and although the Ravens dominated the remainder of the game, they were unable to extend their advantage.

They paid the price when Harrow equalised in injury-time - not the first time this season Bromley have conceded late on.

Wakeling said: "I was very disappointed with the result because we played so well on the day. We should have been out of sight at half-time and were so much better than them.

"We have let in quite a few late goals but I don't read anything into it. It could just be down to a bit of ball watching. It is not like the Premiership where you have loads of cameras everywhere and you can sit down and analyse these things.

"Gary Drewett cut his ear and had to be taken to hospital on Saturday night suffering from double vision. He was in and around that situation when they scored and that might have played a part - we just don't know."

Bromley's injury woes continued when leading scorer Nic McDonnell suffered a recurrence of his hamstring injury after an hour and Colin Luckett collapsed on the morning of the game.

"Colin had to go hospital but thankfully he is ok," explained Wakeling. "We won't know how bad Nic's injury is until later this week."

Next up for Bromley's patched up side is a visit to Staines Town on Saturday. Tutu Henriques has a chance of returning but one man who is definitely out for the next few games is Danny Carroll who is unavailable through work commitments.
