Vickers' ground ready for August friendlies

Tuesday 23rd May 2006

VCD Athletic have unveiled their Oakwood ground in Crayford will be ready for their opening pre-season friendly in early August.

Work will start on the dug-outs, new kitchen and the changing room by next week, together with the completion of he walkway out onto the pitch.

The floodlights are ready for delivery but there has been a slight delay in connecting so they will not be in place until the middle of June.

The fence around the pitch is now complete and the gates to the main car park and turnstiles are nearly completed.

The boardroom has been ordered and will be arriving in two weeks time. This will be erected by the main entrance and kitchen.

Due to the building work being carried out at the ground the Kent League club are restricted to how many pre-season friendlies they can play.

Martin Ford’s side will host Fisher Athletic (3rd August), and Dartford (8th August) and travel to Cray Valley on a date to be confirmed. Vickers’ are also going to publish their full list next week.

Meanwhile, the Kent Senior Trophy winners will be arranging work parties to smarten up the ground every Saturday.

“There is a lot to do to get it ready in time and we need you help from 10am-4pm each Saturday. Contact any member of the committee if you can help,” said a statement on www.vcd-athletic.co.uk
