Turner set to sign deal to stay with Ramsgate

RAMSGATE boss Jim Ward says he’s going to sit down with goalkeeper Jamie Turner tomorrow night to make his move permanent, writes Stephen McCartney.

Since Turner arrived at Southwood Stadium, on loan from Blue Square South side Welling United, the Rams have picked up seven valuable points from their last four games.

And last night’s 2-0 home win over Boreham Wood satisfied Ward, as it took the club out of the Ryman Premier League drop zone, as they moved two places - and two points - clear of the dreaded line.

Goals from Ben Brown and Jay May helped seal a vital three points.

“We played very well,” Ward told www.kentishfootball.co.uk tonight. “We made a bit of hard work with it really. It was 1-0 after 30 minutes, I think it was. We could have had three or four before then but we’ll take it, we’ll take the result.”

Speaking about the club’s league position after 26 games, Ward is looking upwards rather than over his shoulder.

“It brings the rest of the teams above us just that closer,” he added.

But Ward revealed that highly-rated goalkeeper Turner is expected to sign a contract to seal his move from Park View Road.

“I’m sitting him down tomorrow night and discussing a contract with him,” revealed Ward. “He’s done very well - I think he’s the best goalkeeper in Kent.

“He’s really enjoyed it, he comes down with a good car load from London (Nick Davis, Steffan Ball, Jay May and Ryan Royston) - it’s a big car!”

The second piece of good news for upbeat Ramsgate fans is the return of Lee Minshull from his troublesome ankle injury.

“I’ve also got Lee Minshull back fit. He’s been out for ten weeks, which was a massive blow for us and for him.

“He’s playing in the reserves tonight against Ashford, so hopefully he’ll be alright for Saturday.”

Looking forward to Saturday’s game against Wealdstone, Ward added, ““We won’t be far away from the same starting eleven. It’s another hard game - you don’t get an easy game in this league.”
