Troubled Fisher granted 21 day reprieve

Wednesday 22nd April 2009
FISHER ATHLETIC were given yet another reprieve at The High Court in central London this morning, writes Stephen McCartney.

The troubled south London club, relegated from the Blue Square South having finished rock bottom, have been granted a further 21 days for Fisher Athletic Ltd to pay their debts to the Inland Revenue.

A club statement, issued on the club's website, www.fisherathletic.co.uk said there was, "No family representation from the Fisher owners but the barrister (has) asked for more time to pay the outstanding amount.

"The High Court granted the request and gave a further 21 days for Fisher Athletic LTD to pay the Inland Revenue.  This now takes us now to Wednesday 13th May.

"The owners intentions of whether they will pay the outstanding amount are as yet unclear."

Talk of yet another name change and a side dropping back down to the Kent League have been put on hold for the time being, according to club spokesman Joe Arif.

He said: "Realistically, even now it would be very difficult to reform with such few numbers.  Only Martin Eede has any experience running a football club and if Martin isn't on board we'd be screwed.

"The club's still alive and we must hope they have the intentions to pay.  They've resubmitted planning permission (on the club's derelict Salters Road ground) so it's not in the owners interests to allow us to fold.

"At least the barrister turned up and got us a reprieve - I think it's a good outcome!"
