Tooting Bec chairman Steffan Wells searches for investment after celebrating the club's best ever season
TOOTING BEC chairman Steffan Wells says he is searching for investors after celebrating their best ever season.
The amateur outfit finished runners-up in the Southern Counties East Football League First Division and reached the London Senior Trophy Final, losing 2-0 to FC Petrocub.
Snodland Town (66 points from 32 points, finishing eight points clear of Tooting Bec) and third-placed finishers Lydd Town (who beat Tooting Bec on penalties in the play-off final after a 1-1 draw) will be playing in the Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division for the first time next season.
“After 19 years of growth we are looking to hear from individuals or groups that would be keen to drive the club forward to the next 19,” said Wells in a statement.
“On the pitch the club has just delivered its best ever season. It finished with no silverware but huge progress.
“Our first team, reserves and both women’s sides finished in their highest ever positions and our men’s B team got promoted. In all we were runners-up across six competitions.
“Ultimately, we missed out on promotion to Step Five on penalties.
“With no playing budget the job the management team of Matt Hancock, Reece Turner and Gavin Bolger have done is nothing short of a miracle.
“The aim now is go one better and get that promotion after seven straight seasons of finishing in the top five of the league and winning the London Senior Trophy.”
Wells is searching for a chairperson, vice-chairperson, commercial director, first team secretary, head of members club and a head of youth development.
The club currently play their home games at Chipstead’s High Road ground in Surrey.
“It’s never easy to find investment especially when we pride ourselves in being self-sustainable and that will always be the aim,” added Wells.
“Any funding will be used to secure the future of the club and working towards a model where the revenue will eclipse the funding.
“We will be reviewing and announcing how an individual or group could own part of the club and how any investment would be used. As an owner you would be eligible to vote on all club matters and have a major say on the direction of the club’s future.”
