The unity is beginning to show through and we're gonig to need that, says Ray Turner

FAVERSHAM TOWN boss Ray Turner says his side’s unity has helped towards their position in the top-four in the Ryman League Division One South table going into Christmas.

The Lilywhites climbed into the play-off zone following last night’s comfortable 3-0 win at local rivals Herne Bay last night.

Youngster Kieran Oliver scored a very good goal to give Faversham the lead after only 64 seconds before former Herne Bay skipper scored two goals against his former club after latching onto two long balls.

Faversham Town have collected 32 points from 18 league games and are now only four points behind leaders Maidstone United, but Jay Saunders’ side have a couple of games in hand.

The team’s better performances seem to be on the road as their only away league defeat was away to Ramsgate on 21 August and Turner has highlighted that he wants his side to replicate that form in front of their home fans at Salters Lane.

Faversham Town welcome Tooting & Mitcham United to Salters Lane on Saturday, before travelling to Sittingbourne on Boxing Day and then to Walton & Hersham (29 December), before playing fellow title chasers Hythe Town to Salters Lane on the first day of the New Year.

Turner said: “Fingers crossed we keep everyone in good condition because we’ve got a good squad of players.  It’s a small squad of players who have pretty much been together since the summer.

“The unity is beginning to show through and we’re going to need that in the next few games.

“It’s a massive time in terms of trying to get points. It’s a tough time for the players. They’re non-league players trying to keep their conditioning and fitness levels up.

“It’s always going to be difficult, but we’ve got so many games but it’s an opportunity we’ve put ourselves in with a chance of putting some more points on the board and trying to stay up there with the pacesetters.”

When asked whether his dark horses can go on to clinch the title, Turner replied, “I wouldn’t have though so at this stage. I think it’s still very early. I’m just delighted putting the club and Faversham Town on the map in respect of getting in the position we are.”
