The squad I currently have is the best squad I have managed since I joined Ramsgate, says Jim Ward

RAMSGATE boss Jim Ward has added to his squad ahead of his side’s opening pre-season friendly against Gillingham at Southwood Stadium on Wednesday.Striker, Ryan Moore, 19, who played for the Rams’ under 18s and broke into the reserves in 2009-20, showing his eye for goal, left to play for Ebbsfleet United’s reserve side last season, where he featured in first team competitions like the Kent Senior Cup.
There are a couple of other new faces at pre-season training who Ward may also give a run-out in the Gillingham game, including Sam Fisher who has just been released by the Gills.
Ward told www.ramsgate-fc.co.uk: “Sam Fisher is a tenacious midfielder who has been with Gillingham and is now training with us.
"Striker Ryan Moore has re-signed having recently been playing for Ebbsfleet reserves, and these were the only players we were looking to bring in.
“We had a great season last year and we have a very strong squad to be moving on with. We know that none of the players are at full fitness yet, we don’t expect them to be. But they have kept themselves in great shape in the close season.
“I believe that this game will be more enjoyable for us than Gillingham. They are a great club, and this will be a great experience for our players. It will also be a great help for (my management team) as we can learn about the players.”
Ward also says there are high hopes for the strike force of Stuart Vahid and Joe Taylor as the Rams bid to mount a promotion challenge next season.
“Every season we aim for the play-offs, which is no different this year, and we always see where this aim takes us. If I was offered any place in the top five, I would take it right now.
“The squad I currently have is the best squad I have managed since I joined Ramsgate, better than the team that got to the Premier play-offs. When we got there a lot of our players realised they were good enough to move to bigger teams. We lost players like Lee Minshull, who now plays for AFC Wimbledon in League Two.”
Meanwhile, anyone attending this match will be able to see the next home friendly, against Kent League side Erith & Belvedere on Tuesday 19th July, completely FREE of charge – simply keep your ticket from the Gills game for entry.
Prices for the Gillingham game have been confirmed as £9 adult, £6 concessions, and £3 juniors (12-16 yrs) – Under 12s FREE.
