The sign of a good side is how many points you take against sides below you, says Tony Burman

The Darts came away from Ryman Premier League side Kingstonian with a 4-0 victory in their First Round tie to book their place in the last 32 of The FA Carlsberg Trophy.

Goals from Jacob Erskine, Elliot Bradbrook, Danny Harris and substitute Nathan Collier sealed the victory over Kingstonian, who saw a fourth minute penalty from Andre McCollin saved by Marcus Bettinelli and Simon Huckle sent off.
 
The Darts will welcome Tonbridge Angels in the Second Round (last 32) on 15 December after Tommy Warrilow’s side came away from Merthyr Town with a 2-1 win tonight, courtesy of a rare goal from Sonny Miles and a last-gasp winner from Lee Browning.

 
Meanwhile, the Darts travel to Tamworth on Saturday, a side that they played on the opening day of their Blue Square (Conference) Premier adventure, back in August.

Since their 3-2 home defeat to Tamworth, the Darts have grown in their new surroundings and are presently sitting in fifth-place in the table with 33 points from 19 games – only three points behind leaders Grimsby Town.

Tamworth, meanwhile, lie in 15th place in the table, with 24 points from 20 games.

Burman, who has secured three promotions in the past six seasons, knows it’s important to bag victories against sides lower down in the table.

“It’s very important how many points we pick up against those sides,” said Burman.

“The Luton’s, the Grimsby’s, the Wrexham’s are brilliant. It’s fantastic that we’ve taken some serious points off those sides but you’ve got to be consistent and I think the sign of a good side is how many points you take off against sides below you.”

Dartford relished the favourites tag against two-times FA Trophy winners Kingstonian last weekend after they went into the game two league’s higher than the Surrey outfit.

But Dartford have been the underdogs in many of their league games this season – and Burman’s side have secured some memorable results against former Football League clubs.

Burman said: “It’s a different type of pressure but we’re earned that right to be favourites in some of the games not just because we’re higher than teams in the league.

“It would be good to see how we come out against some of the sides below us.”

Reflecting on their win over K’s, Burman said: “It was important that we won the game. We wanted to keep things going. We wanted to stamp our authority on the game and I think we did in the end.”
