The League have been great allowing games on good artificial pitches, says Glebe boss Rocky McMillan

Friday 14th February 2014
GLEBE manager Rocky McMillan says it’s great to be back playing after the Kent Invicta League gave clubs the go-ahead to play on artificial pitches tomorrow.

Glebe have switched their game with Crockenhill to a home game and it will be played on an artifcial pitch at a local school.

The club last played a league game on 21 January when they suffered a 4-1 defeat at Sutton Athletic – but the wettest winter in 250 years’ has played havoc with the season.

Glebe are in eleventh-place (bottom five) in the table with five wins and a draw from fifteen games.

Crockenhill arrive at Magpie Hall Lane with a miserable record of losing all of their fifteen league games, conceeding 92 goals in the process.

Craig Clark’s side have lost all of their seventeen games this season but must take credit for taking to the field every week to keep the club going.

“I’m expecting a very competitive match,” said McMillan.

“Crockenhill are a club with a great history, in comparison we’re rookies.

“Crockenhill have no points but I shall be reminding my squad that an animal is at its most dangerous when wounded.  We’ll be giving them absolute 1000% respect, as we do for all teams in this league.”

Glebe have been playing unofficial practice matches on artificial pitches during the bad weather break.

“We’ve been keeping very busy training and playnig every week,” said McMillan, who is also the club’s chairman.

“I hope to follow up a really good performance in a 3-1 win against Holmesdale last week.

“The weather break has been a hinderance.  With partnerships with schools means we’ve had games.”

The tide is finally turning with the Kent Invicta League allowing league fixtures to be played on artificial pitches.

Bearsted’s home league game against fourth-placed Orpington has been switched to Swadelands School, Ham Lane, Lenham ME17 2LL – kicking off later at 4:30pm – which gives people a chance to attend two league games in one day.

McMillan said: “It’s great to be back playing.  The League have been great with allowing games on good artificial pitches.

“The game tomorrow is on a full sized pitch, railed off standing area, parking for 200 and wonderful facilities.

“You’ve got to go outside your bubble and comfort zone. It’s a changing world and we must move and encompass the good changes.”

The Glebe chief has used the wet weather break to improve his playing squad for tomorrow’s game.

“The break has given me the chance to complete the necessary changes,” said McMillan.

“James Russell joins us after playing at Chipstead, Erith and Tunbridge Wells.

“I’ve got some wonderful new lads from various clubs who after their scholarships just missed out on pro deals, so they are really hungry.

“There’s a wonderful atmopshere in the camp and I can’t wait to get going again.”

The game will kick off at 12 NOON - there
will be a £2 admission charge for this game.
