The challenge now is to produce the necessarily funding to maintain the clubs status - Moules
EBBSFLEET UNITED will be holding showdown talks later in the month to discuss the future of the club, writes Stephen McCartney.
Fans are welcome to attend the meeting, which will be held in the social club at Stonebridge Road on Wednesday 22nd April, starting at 7:30pm.
Chairman John Moules, writing in his programme notes for last night’s game against Kidderminster Harriers, said, “The club need to generate significant income over the close season to continue to move the club forward in the coming year.
“One pleasing aspect from last week was the match attendance (against Northwich Victoria) over the 1,000 mark and given the number of matches recently the local support has been magnificent.
“Operating a full time professional basis is a huge challenge for clubs at our level of the game and as we have seen in recent weeks even big clubs like Southampton are not immune from the recession.
“The challenge now we move towards safety for next season is to produce the necessarily funding to maintain the clubs status in the national game and continue to raise the bar both on and off the field of play.
“This week the club are providing details of admission prices for next season on the MyFC website.
“On a positive note with AFC Wimbledon and Luton Town, who took 38,000 supporters to Wembley in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy Final, almost certain to be in the Blue Square Premier next season, we can look forward to some well supported matches against them at Stonebridge Road next season.
“Meeting with the Fleet Trust last week showed the commitment its committee and members have to see the club continue in its current form and they came along with a range of ideas to help in raising funds for next season.”
The Fleet travel to Stevenage Borough on Saturday, before welcoming already relegated side Lewes to Stonebridge Road on Easter Monday. Both games kick off at 3pm.
