The Barr has now been raised, admits Angels chairman Sullivan - EXCLUSIVE
Tonbridge Angels have signalled their intent on winning promotion from the Ryman Premier League this season - with the return of former fans’ favourite, Hamid Barr, writes Stephen McCartney.
Angels chairman Mr Nick Sullivan met the 28-year-old former Fisher Athletic, Queen’s Park Rangers, St Albans City and Gravesend & Northfleet right-sided midfielder star earlier today and quickly signed him to bolster the squad.
“He’s just another good player, to add to the good players’ we’ve already good,” Mr Sullivan said EXCLUSIVELY to www.kentishfootball.co.uk.
“Hamid’s a good player, whose going to enhance the squad we’ve got.
“He knows (our management team) Tony (Dolby) and Mike (Rutherford) very well and it wasn’t very difficult to entice him back, when Tony explained his vision.”
Mr Sullivan believes the Betterview Longmead Stadium club will improve even further this season.
He said: “I think the supporters’ expectations from last year would expect improvement, and for me improvement is progression.
“The league will be harder this year because the amounts of money Billericay, Wimbledon, Chelmsford and Hornchurch are all spending. We have a strict budget that Tony has to endear to.”
Meanwhile, Mr Sullivan, 46, was quick to rubbish Sussex newspaper reports that midfielder Anthony Storey, whose signed from Blue Square Southern club Lewes - or any other player at the club - was pocketing £500 per week.
“I don’t know where these figures come from,” said Mr Sullivan. “There’s only two people who know the budget, and that’s Tony and myself.
“How would the manager of Eastbourne Town know what Tonbridge Angels players' are paid? Is he a personal friend of mine? I’ve never heard of him!
