Thamesmead investigate "illegal approach" for skipper Kearley

Friday 21st July 2006

Thamesmead Town, who kick off their Kent League campaign with a home game against Tunbridge Wells on 12th August, are pleased to announce the signings of central defender Lee Morgan and right-back Scott Lewis from local rivals Slade Green.

Both players came to the Bayliss Avenue club for pre-season after Terry Malin and Phil Miles left the Small Glen.

Thamesmead manager Keith McMahon told www.thamesmeadtownfc.co.uk :  “Two more good signings for the club. I told them both that I would give them a chance in pre-season and they have both taken it.

“Lee has impressed me in the last two games, playing right-back against Dartford and then centre half against Maidstone.

“Scott also impressed me against Maidstone where he looked very comfortable.”

McMahon also revealed Mead captain Dean Kearley will be staying at Bayliss Avenue despite being subject of an “illegal approach” from a rival Kent League manager.

He said: “Dean spoke to us about a manager ringing him up on Friday an asking if he had signed for us.

“When Dean told him he had, he then proceeded to offer him £60 a game plus bonuses, and said he would ring Dean this Friday for a decision.

“Dean spoke to us about it and said he didn’t want to leave the club. The club is now dealing with the manager involved.”

Thamesmead entertain Eton Manor at Bayliss Avenue tomorrow (3pm).
