Thamesmead complete double transfer swoop

Sunday 02nd July 2006

Kent League side Thamesmead Town have made a double signing this weekend, with James Brown, 23, and Scot Mulholland, 19, joining the Bayliss Avenue club, writes Stephen McCartney.

Manager Keith McMahon, who has already brought big central defender Ryan Royston to the club from Kent League double winners Maidstone United, is happy to team up with Brown again.

The highly-rated midfielder played for McMahon when the raven haired Mead boss was youth team manager at VCD Athletic.

McMahon, who takes over from Paul Blade at the helm, told www.thamesmeadtownfc.co.uk  : “James played for me when I was the youth team manager at VCD.

“When he heard I was taking over at Thamesmead he rang to see if he could come along, which is nice.

“He is one of the best midfielders in the league. He always gives 110% and now that he is back to full fitness after a long term injury, I think we will see the bet for him this year.”

McMahon admits signing former Queen’s Park Rangers youngster Mulholland is “also a big signing for the club.”

He added: “He played for us last year for a bit when he left QPR and I thought he was an outstanding talent.

“He is a very gifted player who likes to get the ball down and play and he has bundles of skill, he will gel very well with James.”

McMahon reveals he will make a couple more signings within the next few weeks, and added: “The squad is starting to take shape now and is looking a very good young strong side, which is exciting.”

McMahon, meanwhile, admitted he was very happy with the first week of pre-season training.

The club has so far arranged nine friendlies in a very hectic period before their Kent League campaign kick’s off on 12th August,

“Training has gone very well for our first week back,” he said. “Numbers have been excellent and the players have worked very hard.

“We have had some new faces down which has freshened things up and I’m expecting a few more in the coming weeks.”

Speaking about his training techniques, he added: “We have tried to make the training enjoyable for the players. You can enjoy pre-season but we have had the footballs out in every session and the players have responded with a positive attitude.”
