Derek Duncan's experience will be vital for us and he’s CV is second to none at this level and I know the players are delighted that he’s staying at Thamesmead Town, says boss Terry Spillane
THAMESMEAD TOWN manager Terry Spillane takes some good news with him going into tomorrow’s trip to Romford.
The Mead go through the tunnel sitting in the top ten in the Ryman League Division One North table, having collected 14 wins, six draws and eight defeats this season.
Romford, who play at Thurrock, lie in seventeenth-place in the table with seven wins, eight draws and 16 defeats.
Spillane said: “Our form at the moment is good, losing just once in our last eight games so we are going into the game away at Romford very confident but as always we will give them our full respect and we will certainly not underestimate them.
“We have a full squad to select from for the first time in a while which is a real plus as you need that competition for places at this time of the season.
“As ever we are always looking to improve so over the last few weeks we have brought in Jon Docker (ex Grays Athletic) who has vast experience at this level.
“We have also promoted young midfielder Phillipe Blatter from our under 21 team. Phillipe made his first team debut for us last week and made an immediate impact with his passing ability and urgency.
“We have had two really good bits of news within the club this week that has boosted the morale of players, club officials and our supporters.
“Team captain Derek Duncan turned down an offer of a player/coach role from a Ryman Premier club last week and club captain Jack Hopkins has started full training after his knee operation and fortunately he will make a contribution for us in our run in this season.
“Derek’s experience will be vital for us and he’s CV is second to none at this level and I know the players are delighted that he’s staying at Thamesmead Town.
“Hoppo being back amongst the boys at training has definitely given everyone a lift.”
