We can cause an upset and make a bit of club history, says Thamesmead Town boss Terry Spillane

Friday 27th November 2015

THAMESMEAD TOWN manager Terry Spillane says his side have to be at their best to cause a FA Trophy upset at Hungerford Town tomorrow.

The Mead travel to Berkshire to play a side that are in fourth-place in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier League and with an impressive record at Bulpit Lane.

Thamesmead Town have suffered back-to-back defeats and have lost four of their last five games and have slipped down to 12th place in the Ryman League Division One North table.

But Spillane revealed that the team have been in high spirits ahead of their Third Qualifying Round tie tomorrow, having knocked out Ryman Premier League opposition in the last round.

“Obviously we go into the game as massive underdogs as we did against Enfield Town,” said Spillane, who will create history with a victory as Thamesmead Town have never played in The FA Trophy First Round before.

“Like Enfield, they are on an amazing run of form at home, losing just one game so far, so it’s a game where we can go and play with no pressure and hopefully get a result.

“I went to watch them on Monday and they’re a very well organised team, who work very hard with and without possession of the ball so we know we have to be at our very best to get a result.

“If we stick to our game plan and work harder than them and get a bit of lady luck, which has deserted us at the moment, then we can cause an upset and make a bit of club history.

“The boys trained very well this week and are looking forward to the game.

“We have no injury worries so we can pick from a full squad, which is a bonus.”
