Our team never give up, which at this stage of the season is vital, says Thamesmead Town boss Terry Spillane

THAMESMEAD TOWN boss Terry Spillane says he’s expecting a very hard game against leaders AFC Sudbury tomorrow.

The Suffolk side are eight points clear of AFC Hornchurch, while The Mead lie in tenth-place in the Ryman League Division One North table on 51 points from 29 games.

“We are expecting a very hard game against the runaway league leaders tomorrow, a game where we will hope to continue our decent home record,” said Spillane.

“I watched them on Tuesday against Tilbury and was very impressed with the way they played, so we are under no illusions as to how tough a game it’s going to be.

“Hopefully our game plan will get us some points and if we play to our strengths then we can get something from the game.

“Our last two games have seen us go 2-0 down but comeback to win 3-2 against Great Wakering Rovers and Romford respectively, which certainly tells you our team never give up and fight, which at this stage of the season is vital.

“On the player front we have a couple of players who will need fitness tests tomorrow before the game and hopefully they come through that so we can go into the game at full strength.

“Our young winger Ainsley Everett has gone on a one-month loan to Peacehaven & Telscombe.”

Meanwhile, AFC Hornchurch have added firepower to their forward line after signing Ricky Freeman from their league rivals Phoenix Sports.

Freeman, who has scored 20 goals for the Barnehurst based club this season, explained why he has made the switch to the Essex club.

He said: “I have decided to leave Phoenix Sports and sign for AFC Hornchurch.  I loved my time at Phoenix and have had some great memories.

“Hopefully I can score some goals to help Hornchurch win the league.”
