Sutton United sign Rams striker Ball for undisclosed fee

Blue Square South basement side Sutton United have splashed the cash in a bid to beat the drop, by signing Ramsgate striker Steffan Ball for an undisclosed fee, writes Stephen McCartney.

The 28-year-old, who lives in south London, has signed for the Gander Green Lane club, it has been confirmed on Tuesday.

Ramsgate boss Jim Ward broke the news to www.kentishfootball.co.uk on Monday night, literally seconds before Dover Athletic scored their last-gasp winner against Horsham YMCA.

“We’ve agreed a deal with Sutton and just wanting if Steffan Ball has agreed terms - he wants to go and they want him,” said Ward.

“He wants to play in the Conference, so I won’t stand in his way.

“The deal was right for both player and club and (the funds) will go on players to strengthen the squad.”

Meanwhile, Dover Athletic boss Andy Hessenthaler, writing in his programme notes, believes he has been out-priced for Rams defender Ollie Schulz.

He said: Recently in the local papers there was an article regarding Ramsgate centre half Ollie Schulz, who has been made available for transfer.

“He is a player that I was interested in earlier on in the season. We have made an approach for the player but unfortunately Ramsgate are asking ridiculous amounts of money, so at the moment there is no progress.”
