Supporters raise funds for Margate

Sunday 15th January 2006

A flurry of events in the Hartsdown Park social club across the festive period has allowed Margate Independent Supporters Association (MISA) to provide a sizeable contribution to the Ryman Premier League club of £16,000 this financial year.

“With notification that the redevelopment has been delayed until the end of the season it allows us some breathing space with the knowledge that the social club will remain intact until at least May,” said a statement.

As MISA strives to add to the sum mentioned the social club remains the focus of their fund-raising.

The post-Christmas period historically sees a tightening of financial belts and a falling off in bookings sadly reflects this scenario.

However, to fill some of the blank dates MISA itself is looking to organise functions.

“We do, however, rely very much so on supporters for support in both “selling” the facility we have here for attending events,” the statement added.

MISA are staging various events to raise money for the football club, that are fifth from bottom in the table.

A Poker-Texas Hold-em tournament (19th January), an evening of soul, blue and jazz, courtesy of saxophonist Johnny Hooper (9th February) and Country and Western singer Ollie Austin (2nd March) will raise much-needed funds for the Thanet club.
