Supporters bid to get Folkestone Invicta back on its feet
A RECORD number of supporters will take part in the sponsored walk that will raise funds for troubled club Folkestone Invicta on Saturday, writes Stephen McCartney.
Bucket shaking supporters will kick-off their walk at Hythe Town’s Reachfields Stadium at 10am to get to Folkestone Invicta’s Cheriton Road ground in time for their Kent derby against promotion chasing Kent rivals Sittingbourne.
Organiser Paul Sly, posting on the fans’ forum at www.folkestoneinvicta.co.uk, is expecting a good turn out to support the troubled Ryman League Division One South club.
“If you haven’t already got a sponsor form, or would like to participate without any sponsorship, then please come along and join us,” he said.
“There will be bucket collections en-route, which you can help with.
“For those who can’t commit to the full two and a half to three hours duration, the route will take us along the seafront from Reachfields, cutting through to the Leas and eventually through the town centre. Feel free to join in at any point. All vocal support and encouragement will be appreciated.
“It is hoped that a record number will participate, and a record amount will be collected on behalf of the supporters’ club, which in turn, of course, will help Folkestone Invicta to survive.”
Walkers should assemble outside the entrance to Hythe Town’s Reachfields Stadium ground at Fort Road in time for the 10am start.
Mr Sly added: “Let’s show how much our club means to us all and help try to get Invicta back on its feet!”
