Stones unveil first summer signing

Tuesday 30th May 2006
Maidstone United’s joint-management duo of Alan Walker and Lloyd Hume have delivered the first of their promised summer transfer signings on Bank Holiday Monday when they secured the signature of central defender Errison Ahwan from Beckenham Town, reports www.maidstoneunited.co.uk

"We have signed an outstanding player in Errison,” said Walker.  “He is 26 years of age and supporters can expect to see a central defender in the mould of Mario Celaire."

Celaire and Nathan Paul came to the Stones last summer from the Eden Park Avenue outfit.

Walker added: "He is strong aerially and is very comfortable on the ball and prefers to play to feet rather than long. He is very similar physically to Mario, in that he is well over 6 feet tall and he also has immense physical presence."

Ahwan has played previously in the Ryman League for both Croydon and Dulwich Hamlet.

Stones fans may well recall that Errison scored for Beckenham Town at Bourne Park during the classic 4-3 Kent League Cup Quarter-Final last season when he rose to head home Becks' first goal.

Meanwhile, the Ryman League Division One South newcomers have also arranged two further friendlies against Erith & Belvedere and Aveley. The revised programme is now:

Saturday 15th July (a) Hythe Town
Tuesday 18th July (a) Thamesmead Town
Saturday 22nd July (a) Bournemouth
Tuesday 25th July (a) Erith & Belvedere
Saturday 29th July (a) Bly Spartans
Monday 31st July (a) Folkestone Invicta
Thursday 3rd August (a) Lordswood
Saturday 5th August (h) Beckenham Town (Kent League Challenge Shield)
Saturday 12th August (a) Aveley
