Stones apply for stadium grant

MAIDSTONE UNITED chairman Paul Bowden-Brown met with representatives from the Football Association and Football Foundation earlier this week to discuss the club's ambitions in developing a new stadium in Kent's county town and bringing the club home.

A range of options were discussed and Bowden-Brown said: "I would like to thank members of the Football Association and Football Foundation for meeting me and for their continued commitment to work with the club to help us realise our current and future aspirations as covered within our bid.

"We considered the current funding criteria and it has been recommended that the club applies firstly for a stadium improvement grant, which awards up to £150,000, so that work can start on-site as soon as possible to provide a redesigned standard stadium that meets the league requirements."

The Ryman Premier League club will announce revised options for the stadium within the next few weeks, but it is still determined and committed to provide facilities for its youth section and the local community.

Mr Bowden-Brown added: "We will work closely with the FA, the Football Foundation, Kent County Council and Maidstone Borough Council to identify a piece of land in Maidstone for our youth and local community football. It is vital that we achieve this too.

"We will also be seriously looking for like-minded partners across the voluntary, private and public sectors to assist the club in building this long-awaited facility and to help bring the team back to their rightful home in Maidstone."
