Star midfielder ponders his future
Jon Wallis insists that Dover Athletic now have a chance of signing him next season - thanks to the Andy Hessenthaler factor, writes Justin Allen.
He said in an audio interview on www.doverathletic.com that Andy’s appointment has now made Dover a more attractive option.
Ex-Gillingham and Hereford midfielder Jon, who impressed during two spells at the club last season, said that ex-boss Clive Walker’s departure and the exit of other players made him rule the Ryman League Division One South side out.
But now the big news from Crabble that Gillingham legend Hessenthaler is in charge of first-team affairs has made him think again.
He said: “I’m going to make a decision in the next couple of weeks. I’ve spoken to Hess and he told me that we’re going to get promoted this season - and sign players to get us promoted again.
“He said Dover Athletic are going to get there. Just him saying that, makes me believe it. He is such a winner and gets the very best out of players.
“I do have other options too - but I want to enjoy my football. And, having ruled Dover out, I’m now ruling them back in.”
Meanwhile, Dover Athletic can confirm that the following players have opted to leave Crabble.
Lee Spiller and Nicky Humphrey have both joined former boss Clive Walker at Ashford Town, whilst Tommy Tyne and Craig Wilkins have signed for Ryman Premier League sides Tonbridge Angels and Maidstone United respectively.
