We know it's going to be a tough game against Badshot Lea but we are doing alright this season and the boys are confident so we will have a go, says Stansfeld joint-manager Jamie Phipps
STANSFELD joint-manager Jamie Phipps says his side will have a go against Badshot Lea in The FA Vase tomorrow.
The Surrey side arrive at Foxbury Avenue in second-place in the Cherry Red Records Combined Counties League Premier Division South table with 10 wins and three draws from their 14 league outings.
Badshot Lea are two points adrift of leaders Walton & Hersham and a point clear of Beckenham Town, who have a game in hand.
Badshot Lea have beaten Devizes Town (10-0), Godalming Town (5-4 on penalties after a 2-2 draw) and Fisher (2-1) to reach the Second Round.
Stansfeld play a level lower and are leading the Southern Counties East Football League First Division table by four points, having banked 36 points from 15 games.
Jointly-managed by Billy Hamlin and Phipps, Stansfeld have beaten Bagshot (3-1), Worthing United (5-1) and their league rivals Staplehurst Monarchs United (3-1).
Confident is high, however, after coming away from Westside with a 3-1 league win last Saturday.
“The boys done really well. It’s always tough going away from home but we have got a really healthy competition for places,” said Phipps.
“The boys who came off the bench against Westside done really well so it keeps everyone on their toes and it’s just another three points ticked off in the league.”
Stansfeld have never reached the FA Vase Third Round before but they lost 3-0 at home to Flackwell Heath at this stage of the competition last season before Flackwell Heath pulled off a shock 1-0 win at Chatham Town in the following round.
“We know it’s going to be a tough game but we are doing alright this season and the boys are confident at the minute so we will have a go,” said Phipps.
“We don’t know a lot about Badshot Lea. We have watched a few clips we have found online and we know they beat Fisher and they are going to be a good side.
“It’s always nice being in The FA Vase. Hopefully we can extend our run in the competition and it will show how far we have come as a club.”
