Sonny Miles decides to leave Tonbridge Angels after 12 years'

TONBRIDGE ANGELS’ newly-appointed manager Steve McKimm has been dealt a blow with the loss of two locally based defenders.

Although left-back Jon Heath has already agreed to play for the club next season, central-defender Sonny Miles has turned down terms while attacking left-back Henry Muggeridge has had his offer withdrawn.

Miles, 23, who has played for the club since the age of 11, has left the club following its relegation from Conference South on 21 April.

Muggeridge has said that he has not accepted the offer as he wants to see what other opportunities may arise.

In withdrawing both offers, former Sutton United coach McKimm, 38, told www.tonbridgeangelsonline.co.uk: “The terms offered to both Sonny and Henry were the same as last year and considered fair bearing in mind we have gone down to a lower league.

“The club needs to push on quickly with assembling a first team squad and people need to know where they stand so that I can attract players who really want to play for the Angels next season.”

The Angels will be playing Ryman Premier League football when the new season kicks off on Saturday 9 August after spending three seasons in Conference South.

McKimm has replaced Tommy Warrilow, who decided not to renew his contract after the club’s relegation was sealed following an embarrassing 7-1 defeat at Chelmsford City in their penultimate game of the season.

Warrilow’s last game in charge of the club was a goal-less draw against Havant & Waterlooville at Longmead Stadium, a result that helped Dover Athletic seal a play-off place.

Chris Kinnear’s side defeated Sutton United 4-1 on aggregate and sealed promotion to the Conference Premier after a 12-year absence after beating Ebbsfleet United 1-0 in the play-off final last Saturday.
