So far it's been a good start to the season, says Herne Bay boss Sam Denly

HERNE BAY manager Sam Denly says he’s delighted with his side’s home form this season.

The Bay are sitting in seventh-place in the Ryman League Division One South table with 23 points from 17 games and enjoying playing on the Winch’s Field pitch this term.

Bitter-rivals Whitstable Town were defeated 2-1 in the Robert Dyas (Ryman League) Cup on Tuesday night.

“We enjoyed a good win against Whitstable Town in the League Cup,” said Denly.

“It was good to get an away win and also considering we made a number of changes, the performance in particular second half was excellent and fully deserved the win over the 90 minutes and now we have a trip to Maidstone Untied to look forward to in the next round.”

Herne Bay are one point adrift of the play-off zone and welcome tenth-placed Chipstead, who have collected two fewer points than the Bay.

“It’s a game we are very much looking forward to,” said Denly.

“Our home form is the second best in the league, having played eight, won seven and losing one so we’re looking to keep that form going at home.

“Chipstead have got off to a decent start. We have had them watched and know it is going to be a very difficult game, but again if we continue to put the same performance levels in we have been recently then there is no reason our excellent home form can’t continue.”

Reflecting on their league campaign, Denly is delighted with his side’s start.

He said: “So far it has been a good start to the season, especially our home form.

“Of course our away form needs to improve but I’m more than happy with our consistent league position.

“If our away form was better we would be sitting in the top three. We’re currently seventh and showing we can compete with teams in the top ten.

“We’re not getting carried away. We wanted to improve on last season and so far it’s been a good start in making that happen.”
