Soccer Shorts: Nineteen apply for Sittingbourne managers job - EXCLUSIVE

Thursday 08th November 2007

www.kentishfootball.co.uk brings you some soccer shorts, with the latest news from Ryman League Division One South rivals’ Sittingbourne and Whitstable Town.

Nineteen people have applied for the managers vacancy at Ryman League Division One South club Sittingbourne, writes Stephen McCartney.

Since Steve Lovell dropped the bombshell that he was quitting the Bourne Park club to replace Clive Walker at Ashford Town, minutes after Sittingbourne won
3-1 at Chatham Town on 30th October, the side have lost to both Corinthian Casuals and Dover Athletic under the caretaker trio of Lee Richmond, Anthony Hogg and Joe Dowley.

Club secretary John Pitts, meanwhile, has said that a new manager will be in place before their home game against league leaders Tooting & Mitcham United on 17th November.

“Probably towards the end of next week,” Mr Pitts said EXCLUSIVELY to www.kentishfootball.co.uk this morning.

“We’ll sift through the applicants over the weekend and interview early next week.”

Sittingbourne, who have dropped to eight place in the table - eight points adrift from the leaders - travel to Walton & Hersham on Saturday.

Whitstable Town could be without upto SEVEN players for Saturday’s clash against Dulwich Hamlet at The Belmont.

Rob Thomas, Josh Maine, Mickey Lane and Clint Gooding have all been ruled out of the clash against a side that’s only three places above them in the Ryman League Division One South table.

Alex Hossick, Gary Sayer and James Duffy, meanwhile, face fitness tests, as boss Marc Seager looks to build on their impressive 4-2 midweek win over Croydon Athletic.

He said EXCLUSIVELY to www.kentishfootball.co.uk this morning: “I’m looking forward to the game. It’s important for us to build on Tuesday’s performance and start to find some consistency, which we’ve lacked so far this season.”

Seager was pleased with his players after firing four past Sam Mott, whose on loan at Croydon Athletic from Ebbsfleet United.

The 19-year-old spent a loan period at Whitstable Town, then a Kent League side, last season.

Goals from Marcos Perona, Jake Gess and a brace from man-of-the-match John Akinde helped the Oystermen to a 4-2 win.

“Along with Akinde, Steven Lloyd and Michael Adcock, every Whitstable player on the pitch were immense,” Seager told www.whitstabletownfc.co.uk.

“Yes we conceded a couple of goals but I thought we were back to our best and the players, every last one of them, worked their socks off and responded as I knew they would with a great performance.”

Now fifteenth in the table, Seager wants his side to repeat that against Dulwich Hamlet on Saturday.

He added: “That was just what I was looking for with Dulwich Hamlet next here at The Belmont on Saturday.”
