Smissen ruled out for the rest of the season

HYTHE TOWN have unveiled the return of central defender Roy Guiver, writes Stephen McCartney.

The central defender returns to Reachfields Stadium, having arrived on a free-transfer from fellow Kent League rivals Faversham Town.

It’s a case of one in, one out for the club, leading the table by two points, as former Ashford Town reserve team striker, Scott Bouvier has been released.

“We do not feel Scott is ready for the step up for a championship challenging side at this time,” club secretary Martin Giles told www.kentishfootball.co.uk tonight.

“He doesn’t want to play for the reserves, (as) he was the golden boot winner at Ashford last year for their reserves.

“We don’t think he’s ready for the step up yet.”

Mr Giles has hailed the return of Folkestone based defender Guiver, adding, “He’s been at the club before and he feels he’s played his best football at Hythe.

“He played so well two years ago, him and Damian Abel. Folkestone Invicta came in for Damian mid season and Roy at the same time and neither of them succeeded at Cheriton Road and moved on else where.

“Roy feels he’s going to repeat, hope to rediscover his best form.”

But striker Michael Smissen has been ruled out for the remainder of the season, following his recent cartilidge operation.

“We’ve had bad news with Buster,” added Mr Giles. “He will need much longer before he returns to action.

“He’s had his operation, which was a success, but there is still a weakness there that needs to be remedied and takes him out of contention for the rest of the season.”
