Slade Green "consider their immediate future" - EXCLUSIVE
THE FUTURE of Slade Green has given Kent League followers plenty of concern recently - but www.kentishfootball.co.uk can EXCLUSIVELY bring you the facts about The Small Glen outfit, writes Stephen McCartney.
www.kentishfootball.co.uk contacted club official Mr Robert Smith over the weekend and the club have issued the following statement.
“The club is currently running at a loss. It is costing us in the region of around £5,000 a season to keep us operating as a senior football club.
“The chairman is currently having to fund this from his own pocket to keep the club afloat. He has been doing this for the last four seasons.
“It is true that the committee are currently discussing if it is feasible for the club to continue in view of the current financial situation.
“But at the same time we have held similar talks for the past four seasons and have continued to operate.
“We did tender our registration from the Kent League at the Annual General Meeting in June 2007 but this was done strictly as a provisional move to ensure that we don’t incur a fine for late withdrawal should we decide to disband the club.
“We would also like to make it clear that the ground has not been sold for development as stated on a web-site forum.
“Also contrary to popular belief we have not started playing players wages. We have never done this during our 61 years of existence and this is still the case to this day.
“As already stated the committee are still considering our immediate future but until further notice Slade Green Football Club will be playing Kent League football next season.”
Slade Green are currently fourth from bottom in the Kent League table with four wins and three draws from their 20 league games.
Below them in the table are Sporting Bengal United, Holmesdale and Tunbridge Wells.
On Saturday (9th February) they travel to one of those sides, Holmesdale, who play at Oakley Road, Bromley, and kick off is at 2pm.
