Being in the top eight will be like winning the league for us, admits Sittingbourne boss Nick Davis

SITTINGBOURNE manager Nick Davis says being in the top eight will feel like winning the league title.

The Brickies are in the top nine in the Ryman League Division One South table with a league playing record of 11 wins, seven draws and eight defeats.  They are only eight points adrift of the play-off zone.

Sittingbourne came away from Salters Lane with a point with a 1-1 draw at local rivals Faversham Town on Boxing Day.

Full-back Ryan Cooper gave the hosts the lead, before Sittingbourne claimed a point courtesy of Stefan Wright’s third goal of the season.

“Yeah, it was a decent point away against Faversham, a local derby and always a tough place to go,” reflected Davis.

“I know a lot of teams are struggling with injuries or suspensions and we are no different. We had seven players missing and it was a case of putting a team out and with a formation we have yet to play this year but one that the available personnel suited.”

Sittingbourne host Hastings United on Saturday (13:00), before welcoming Greenwich Borough on Bank Holiday Monday (15:00).

Hastings arrive sitting in eleventh-place in the table, while Greenwich Borough re presently in the top four.

“We will have one or two back for the weekend games, which don’t come much tougher than Hastings and Greenwich.  We then have Carshalton away (on 7 January) so let’s see where we are after those three games,” said Davis.

“I’m looking to be on 40 points, eight points off the play-offs come the end of 2016.  We are delighted. It’s all about building on that now and see how many points we can accumulate.

“As I said previously if we can double what we did in the first 23 games it should put us in the top eight, which will be like winning the league for us.”
