Ryan Palmer says he is feeling excited about his return to Sittingbourne

SITTINGBOURNE manager Darren Blackburn has made his first summer signing.

Winger Ryan Palmer has left Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division side Chatham Town to return to Isthmian League South East Division side Sittingbourne.

The 2019-20 football season would have ended this afternoon but football was halted due to the coronavirus outbreak - but Blackburn has made his first signing since taking over from Chris Lynch in March.

“I’m very proud to announce Ryan Palmer has agreed to re-join the Brickies for next season,” said Blackburn, who didn’t get a chance to take charge of a game due to the football shutdown.

“Ryan’s a fantastic lad and can’t wait to work with him on and off the field on our projects.

“I know it’s early but there’s so much doom and gloom, I just felt the fans needed a lift.”

Palmer, who scored four times in Chatham Town’s 8-1 win over Erith & Belvedere at Park View Road on 25 February, added: “I’m happy to announce that I have signed for Sittingbourne for the upcoming season.

“I’m excited by the events both on and off the pitch.  Buzzing to get started under Darren Blackburn and the lads, whenever that may be.

“I’m looking forward to the challenge and getting started. It’s nice to be returning to a club where most things started.”

Meanwhile, The Football Association or Isthmian League are not in a position to confirm the start date for the 2020-21 football season.
