I’m delighted to get back involved, especially at a club I know so well, says newly-appoined Sittingbourne assistant manager Ian Varley
IAN VARLEY says he is delighted to be back in the Bostik League again after returning to Sittingbourne as their newly-appointed assistant manager yesterday.
Interim manager Aslan Odev lost his first game in charge, 2-1 at home to East Grinstead Town last Saturday, and has appointed former Holmesdale and Rochester United boss Varley, a full-time coach employed by The Football Association.
The Brickies are in sixteenth-place in the Bostik South Division table with 42 points from 32 games and travel to third-placed side Corinthian-Casuals today, a side that are only a couple of points adrift of leaders Lewes.
“Since leaving my manager’s role at Holmesdale, I had a short spell at Rochester United, which unfortunately didn’t work out for numerous reasons,” said Varley, 34.
“Since then, I’ve just been out watching games, doing a bit of scouting for a couple of club's and just trying to stay involved in the non-league scene as much as possible.”
“I’m delighted to get back involved, especially at a club I know so well having played for the club when they were based at Bourne Park.
“It’s a great club with good people involved and I’m looking forward to working with Aslan and the rest of the team.
“After spending a couple of seasons managing in Steps Six and Five, it’s great to be back in the Bostik League. It’s as competitive as ever and hopefully we can end the season on a high and carry that through to next season.”
Sittingbourne travel to Tolworth having lost their last three games and Corinthian-Casuals are third on 69 points.
“Tough game, obviously they’re right in the mix for automatic promotion, so we’ll have to be at our best to take a positive result from the game.”
