It’s a game we want to win to help up push as far up the table as possible, says Sittingbourne boss Nick Davis

SITTINGBOURNE manager Nick Davis says he is feeling delighted that his side have pulled clear of the relegation zone.

The Brickies are in seventeenth-place in the Ryman League Division One South table on 39 points from 35 games and are now 16 points clear of the relegation zone.

“We have been in great form of late and now we have eased the fear of getting sucked into a relegation battle,” said Davis.

“We can concentrate on the two teams directly above us in Three Bridges and Tooting & Mitcham, who we have ironically in our next two fixtures. “

Second half goals from Steven Ita and Jack Steventon sealed a 2-0 win at East Grinstead Town – who are managed by former Corinthian and Erith & Belvedere boss Matt Longhurst - in midweek.

Davis said:  “The first half against East Grinstead was very much an even affair with very few chances.

“I thought the second half we were outstanding and played some good attacking football and looked a constant threat, with my back four looking very solid.

“They are not a bad side at all and Matt has got them playing some really good football and he always manages to get a decent side together whoever he is charge of. They will pull away from the relegation zone for sure.”

Sittingbourne host Three Bridges tomorrow, a side immediately above them in the table on 45 points from 33 games.

“It’s a game we want to win to help up push as far up the table as possible,” said Davis.

“They had a bit of a hiding (losing 6-0 at home to Dorking Wanderers) on Tuesday night so I would expect a reaction from them.

“If we play like we have been we should win the game, we are creating a lot of chances and I believe we have one of the best left hand sides in the league with the four left footers and we have at our disposal.

“But as we have seen anyone can beat anyone in this league.”
