To progress in The FA Vase is high up on our priorities, says Sheppey United assistant manager Barry Morgan

SHEPPEY UNITED assistant manager Barry Morgan says progression in The FA Vase is high up on the list of priorities this season.

The Ites welcome lower-league Fisher to Holm Park in the First Round tomorrow, sitting in third-place in the Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division table with 23 points from 11 games and are a couple of points adrift of Sevenoaks Town and Croydon.

“We had a good home win against a strong Canterbury City side on Tuesday week, followed by last weekend’s Cup success against West Wickham,” said Morgan, who’s side defeated Southern Amateur League opposition 3-1 in the Kent Reliance Senior Trophy First Round.

“This was a comfortable win against a decent side, who scored first, which obviously gave them something to defend.

“We had to work hard for our win and this cup game enabled us to give some players game time who’d not been involved in previous starting line-ups.”

Dean Harrison brings his Fisher side to Holm Park sitting in tenth-place in the Southern Counties East Football League First Division table with 17 points from their 11 league games.

“This week, being The FA Vase, it’s very important to us that we put on a big performance,” said Morgan.

“To progress in this competition is high up on our priorities, so we’ll be trying our best to win.

“We watched Fisher last Sunday against Cray Valley and although they lost, in the second half they caused Cray many problems, so we won’t be taking this game lightly at all.”

Sheppey United go into tomorrow’s game on an eleven-match unbeaten run.

“As far as the season so far is concerned, we’re reasonably happy with where we are as a club,” said Morgan.

“Last season we were pleased to consolidate our place in the League after being promoted and this year we’re happy to be where we are in the table at this stage.

“The club is on course to finish higher in the table this year, which is where we’re looking to be.

“As I’ve said before, the competition is fierce this year, so to make it into the top six would be a big achievement.”
