SHEPPEY UNITED manager Ernie Batten has unveiled the arrival of free-agent centre-half Callum Wraight.

Newly-appointed assistant manager Nick Davis has been in contact with the former Folkestone Invicta and Hythe Town defender, who took time out of the game last season, to bring him to Holm Park.

The Ites finished in eleventh-place in the  Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division and were runners-up in the Kent Reliance Senior Trophy, where they lost 2-1 (after extra time) to Whitstable Town in the Final.

Champions Sevenoaks Town and runners-up Whitstable Town were promoted to the Bostik South East Division.

“I was contacted by Nick asking what I was doing this season,” Wraight told www.sheppeyunitedfc.co.uk.

“I had taken a season off due to the birth of my son and moving home, so I was keen to get back into the game.

“After a brief conversation I was invited to meet with Nick and Ernie for a more indepth talk and to look at the facilities.  We met Wednesday night and I was impressed with what I saw and what we discussed about the vision of the club going forward and I was happy to sign.”

The left-footed centre half or left-back added: “I’m really looking forward to playing in front of the fans and hope we have a good season together, to gain promotion.”

When asked what makes The Ites appealing to him, Wraight replied: “The ambition of this club going forward, the strong fan base and the management and coaching staff.”

Batten, who has also signed former Sittingbourne versatile player Conrad Lee and former Greenwich Borough and Hollands & Blair striker Rob Denness this summer, added: “Callum really raised the quality of the squad and brings the perfect mentality to our dressing room. We have signed a fantastic player.”

The club have also signed goalkeeper Dan Ellis, who spent the past couple of seasons playing for league rivals Crowborough Athletic.
