Sevenoaks Town 2-4 Folkestone Invicta

Wednesday 25th July 2007

Late goals from Roy Guiver, Damian Abel and James Everitt gave Folkestone Invicta victory over Sevenoaks Town in Tuesday night’s friendly at a sunny Greatness Park after the Kent League side had led 2-1, writes Richard Murrill.

Centre half Guiver levelled to make it 2-2 in the 80th minute as he found the net in a crowded goalmouth when substitute Micheal Everitt had put the ball past the goalkeeper after Iliyan Pamukov had played the ball over from the right.

Striker Abel put Inivcta ahead for the first time in the 87th minute when he kept his composure to put the ball over the goalkeeper and into the net after Micheal Everitt played the ball over the defence to him.

And James Everitt completed the scoring in the 89th minute when Abel turned provider with a low ball through the middle which was given the finish it deserved by the younger Everitt brother who slotted it into the net.

James Everitt had been pushed forward to forma three-pronged Invicta attack as they chased the game when elder brother Micheal came in as part of a triple 62nd minute substitution which also saw the introduction of Martin Chandler and 18-year-old Liam Dickson.

Sevenoaks gave Invicta a good game and had opened the scoring on the quarter of an hour mark thanks to a good strike from Aaron Smith on the edge of the penalty area.

The visitors were level in the 25th minute with Ellis Remy's third goal in three consecutive friendlies over seven days. The centre forward equalised as he fired home following a good move involving James Everitt and Abel when the referee played a good advantage after a late tackle on Pamukov.

But Sevenoaks restored their lead in the 41st minute when former Tonbridge Angels striker Luke Piscina drilled the ball home after Invicta captain Liam Friend was caught in possession.

Invicta gave a full game to 17-year-old goalkeeper Luke Stonebridge, started with trialist Dave Cook and also included Roland Edge at left back. The former Gillingham, Hibernian and Hull City player was at the Priestfield Stadium with James Corbett and has been training with the club.

But Sevenoaks started well and Stonebridge twice had to save from Piscina within the opening five minutes.

At the other end, Remy shot wide with a low 6th minute shot, but Sevenoaks had a couple more chances of their own before taking the lead.

Invicta responded in the 18th minute when a great ball from Ryan Briggs sent Remy away and he seemed poised to repeat his successful lob which had brought him a goal in Saturday’s home encounter against Eastbourne Borough, but this time the goalkeeper was able to spread himself and make a save.

Stonebridge had another save to make in the 24th minute, but Remy was soon to equalise.

Invicta enjoyed a good spell as Abel shot at the goalkeeper from the edge of the penalty area in the 35th minute and Pamukov shot at the goalkeeper four minutes later after a good move also involving Cook, James Everitt and Remy.

But Friend’s mistake led to Sevenoaks going into half time ahead.

Unusually for a pre-season friendly, Invicta made no substitutions at half time.

Stonebridge was called into action again and made a close range save after 52 minutes, while Remy showed skill on the right hand side of the penalty area following a corner on the right and Guiver nearly got a touch on his subsequent shot.

James Everitt did not get enough power on his shot when Abel played a great ball across from the left in the 65th minute and Remy headed wide at the far post a minute later when Friend played a dangerous ball across from deep on the left.

Stonebridge then made a good 70th minute save at the expense of a corner from the righthad side of the penalty area.

But Invicta went in search of an equaliser as Chandler forced a corner with a strong 73rd minute header and Remy was close again when James Everitt played the ball through the middle two minutes later.

Guiver’s equaliser saved the day for Invicta, but there was a scare at the other end after 81 minutes when Sevenoaks went close with a backheel following a break down the right hand side of the penalty area.

Remy looked set to put Invicta ahead a minute later when he fired wide after Pamukov put the ball in from the right following a dangerous move started by the now left back Friend and also involving James Everitt.

Two goals in three minutes from Abel and James Everitt won the game for Invicta, though Sevenoaks were close again with a high shot across goal from the right hand side of the box in the last minute.

Folkestone Invicta: Stonebridge, J. Everitt, Edge (Dickson 61), Cook (Chandler 61), Chappell, Guiver, Briggs (M. Everitt 61), Pamukov, Remy, Abel, Friend.
