Sevenoaks pair quit due to lack of backing from club - EXCLUSIVE
Sunday 09th March 2008
SEVENOAKS TOWN’S management pairing Bob Pittaway and Derek Moore have both quit the Greatness Park club following yesterday’s 6-0 home defeat at the hands of Faversham Town, writes Stephen McCartney.Pittaway, speaking EXCLUSIVELY to www.kentishfootball.co.uk at 8pm on Sunday evening, explained his reasons for stepping down.
“They’re private reasons but I don’t think the club’s given us the support we need,” he said.
“I feel as though I’ve taken the club as far, and the players as far as I can take them without any backing.
“It’s a difficult club to manage. If they want to go on and reach a higher level they need to look at exactly what they want to achieve.
“But as far as I’m concerned the club are not ready to back my own ambitions to take them into the Ryman League.”
Looking at his own personal future in the game, Pittaway added: “I’m going away for Easter now and will evaluate things and see where I go from there.”
But the former Dartford coach admitted he will miss the involvement with the players as his two-year reign with the Kent League club - alongside Moore -comes to an end.
He added: “I enjoyed being with the players and coaching and being involved on a Saturday. Football’s been my life since I was five-years-old.”
The pair leave the club sitting in a much healthier position as they found it when they first joined when the club were rock bottom.
But with eight games of this season remaining the Oaks are currently in tenth place in the Kent Leaue table with a record of eight wins and five draws from 24 games.
Last season the pair lead the club to it's highest final position - tenth - in the Kent League.
