Seager keeps his unbeaten side's feet on the ground

Whitstable Town went ten points clear at the top of the Kent League table following today's 2-0 win over Beckenham Town at the Belmont.

Marc Seager’s side remain unbeaten from their 19 league games but after their win over a strong Beckenham Town side, he was quick to bring his young side back down to earth.

Asked whether his side were good enough to win the table, Seager told www.whitstabletownfc.co.uk : “Sure we are pleased with the way our season is going but you will not see me or (assistant) Simon (Halsey) getting carried away with the results so far.

“Ask me at the end of the season and I will give you the same reply as I have all season.

“If we are four points clear with one game to play and it is mathematically impossible for anyone to beat us, ask me that question again, then I might give you a different answer,” he said with a smile.

Whitstable went ahead in the first half after skipper Marcos Perona scored in the 43rd minute with a neatly taken goal after good work by striker Andy Constable.

Perona returned the favour in the second half when he was the provider for sought-after striker Constable to score his 70th goal for the Oystermen since he joined the club in 2000.

Constable added: “My aim is to break the 100 goals for the club. First I need to try and beat Andy Keir’s appearance for the club (but) both are in my sights.”

Title favourites Whitstable travel to basement boys Sporting Bengal United next Saturday (3pm).

The Mile End based side were thrashed 5-0 at Erith & Belvedere  and are at the foot of the table having collected just two wins and two draws from their 19 games.
