Seager hails his five-star team

WHITSTABLE TOWN boss Marc Seager is full of beans, following his side's emphatic 5-0 victory at Burgess Hill Town last night, writes Stephen McCartney.

The Oystermen are now nine points clear of the Ryman League Division One South relegation zone in fifteenth place, following last night’s star showing.

They went into last Saturday’s must-win, six-pointer with Corinthian-Casuals on the back of four wins from their previous eight games, and the 3-2 home win ensured that they leapfrogged over the Tolworth based amateurs.

That win ensured they went into last night’s game on the same number of points as Burgess Hill, but no-one would have predicted an impressive 5-0 win, as goals from Ian Pulman (2), Dave Cory, Clint Gooding and a Liam Quinn penalty, recorded the club’s largest ever win in the Ryman League.

“A fantastic all round performance from start to finish, full of passion, desire and quality,” praised Seager, when speaking to www.kentishfootball.co.uk this morning.

“Last night was a big game for us and in all honesty the scoreline flattered our opponents, who are a good side, but on the night we had too much for them.

“There were no individual star performances, it was a star team performance with every single player putting in an eight out of ten performance, doing exactly what was asked of them from the very first whistle.”

Seager has told his players not to slack when they visit Whyteleafe on Saturday.

The Leafe go into the game one place below the Oystermen with one point fewer, on the back of picking up six points from their last three games.

“We’ve now won four out of our last five games and won our last three away games,” said Seager.

“We will now be looking to make that four straight away wins at Whyteleafe on Saturday in another tough game.

“But we’ll go there full of confidence, looking to continue our recent good form, as we aim to make the gap between ourselves and the bottom two even bigger and in the process close in on the teams above us.

“A word of warning though, yes, we are in great form, but there’s no room for complacency or getting carried away, because if we do then we may just find ourselves sucked back into the relegation fight.”
