Sporting Club Thamesmead joint-boss Danny Joy: We have been told in no uncertain terms that our start has not been acceptable
SPORTING CLUB THAMESMEAD joint-manager Danny Joy says he has had a clear the air team meeting last night and admitted the pressure is on to turn things around.
The artist formerly known as Seven Acre & Sidcup have had a season to forget so far and sit second-from-bottom in the Southern Counties East Football League First Division table.
The Acre have claimed just one win, two draws and six defeats in the league and the pressure has been cranked up going into Friday night’s trip to FC Elmstead in The Buildbase FA Vase First Round.
FC Elmstead have knocked out Southwick (2-1) and AFC Uckfield Town (1-0) on their travels and are playing in the First Round for the very first time.
Jointly-managed by Joy and Ross Baker, Sporting Club Thamesmead needed two bites of the cherry to knock out Ringmer and the club are also making their First Round debut.
“Tomorrow is a massive game for the club, also myself and Ross Baker personally,” admitted Joy.
“The start to the season has been poor in terms of points, if not in performance, but we have been told in no uncertain terms that our start has not been acceptable!
“Tomorrow is a great chance for us to begin to turn our season around following the low of losing 5-2 away to Lordswood (in the Kent Reliance Senior Trophy First Round) on Saturday when we only had a squad of 12 available players.
“We feel that things can only get better from now. We had a team meeting last night when the players got told a few home truths and we’ve asked for more from them in terms of availability and performance. Afterwards we had a good upbeat training session and confidence seems high going into tomorrow.
“We are hoping to have a few back to lift the squad and give us the motivation to have a right go at getting into the next round.”
