Southern Counties East Football League confirms early September start date

Thursday 23rd July 2020

The 2020-21 Southern Counties East Football League campaign will kick-off on Saturday 5 September 2020.

The League board met last night and confirmed the start date for the new season and agreed that their Annual General Meeting will be held remotely on Friday 31 July.

“Given the likelihood that all matters will not be finalised by this date, the League have also proposed an EGM on Thursday 13 August,” said a League statement.

“Player registrations will be accepted by the League’s registration secretary from Saturday 1 August.

“Given the shortened season, The FA Cup and Vase competitions taking place and the indication that County Cups could also be played, the board have decided not to proceed with the Challenge Cup for the 2020-21 season.

“All of the above, of course, is subject to change should circumstances regarding Covid-19 alter and further guidance is released by The FA.”

There was no update as to when Corinthian can play their FA Vase Semi-Final two-legged date with Hebburn Town or details about the showpiece Wembley Stadium Final.

The FA have confirmed that Balham and Tower Hamlets will be playing in the Premier Division after agreeing groundshare deals at AFC Croydon Athletic and Phoenix Sports respectively.

Balham used to play their home games at Colliers Wood United’s Wibbandune Stadium in Wimbledon SW20, while Tower Hamlets hail from Mile End in East London.

Tower Hamlets will be playing nearly 13 miles away from their traditional base with their move to Barnehurst, while Balham will be moving nearly nine miles to Thornton Heath.
