Sammy wants Moore goals

SAMMY MOORE was buzzing after his stunning late goal put the gloss on Dover's deserved 2-0 win at Dartford to stay top of the Ryman Premier League table, writes Justin Allen.

The midfielder has become an instant hit with the Whites faithful following three goals in his opening two league games - making him the club's current top scorer this season.

But Sammy, speaking to www.doverathletic.com, believes he had chances to grab a hat-trick at Princes Park.

He said: "I saw the keeper off his line and managed to bend the ball around him. I was so excited to score because I felt gutted not to have put a couple of earlier chances away.

"One of them I didn't even make the keeper work, which was disappointing. But to get that goal at the end was great as it released the pressure on the team, because Dartford were coming at us strong for the equaliser."

Sammy admits he and his team-mates need to work harder on coming out of the traps much quicker as Dover have so far started the season something of a second-half team.

It was not until after half-time that Dover produced the fireworks to blast past Harrow 4-0 in the season's curtain-raiser on Saturday - and again it was the same at Dartford.

He said: "We've been doing very well in the second half. It seems to have taken us a while to settle down into games but when we have got into the match we've played some superb football.

"Now it's a case of trying to start matches better - and keep winning games. Andy Hessenthaler has given us a monthly target, which we're aiming for. The idea is to get off to a flying start so the rest of the league are looking up at us. That's what we'd like to do - and make the other teams play catch-up. That's what you need to do if you're aiming for promotion."

The strong-tackling, all-action star is delighted with life at Dover since signing this summer.

He said: "I love it here. The team is very good, Andy and Darren Hare are top managers and the fans - well, they've been amazing. The Jollyboys make a lot of noise and it really does lift the players. I hope we can keep our form going - and get ourselves back into the Conference set-up, where we should be."
