Sam Bewick is the third of four signings I wanted to make this summer, says Scott Porter

HYTHE TOWN boss Scott Porter has unveiled the signing of box-to-box midfielder Sam Bewick from their Ryman League Division One South rivals Herne Bay.

Hythe Town finished their campaign in fourth-place last season, but suffered a 3-0 defeat away to Faversham Town in the semi-finals of the play-offs.

They are without a chairman at present after Paul Markland stepped down at the end of the season due to increased work commitments.

Bewick, 20, made eleven appearances for Herne Bay last season, scoring two goals and has also had spells at Queen’s Park Rangers and Tonbridge Angels.

Bewick originally moved to Winch’s Field for more regular football, leaving behind the ultra-competitive squad of play-off winners Maidstone United.

However, the Stones lost one of their most highly-rated youngsters, as the year before Bewick was their supporters’ player-of-the-year runner-up after making 50 appearances for the club during the 2011-12 season.

Bewick’s short Herne Bay career at Winch’s Field also included three man-of-the-match awards.

Porter, who was speaking to his clubs website www.hythetownfc.co.uk said: “Sam is another player that has that combination of youth but also with plenty of experience for his age.

“Again, a lot of sides were in for a player that has decided to join us at Reachfields.”

Porter has made two summer signings so far; defender Ryan Cooper, 20, has arrived from Sittingbourne, whilst target-man Shaun Welford, has come from promoted Maidstone United after trying to sign him earlier in the year.

Porter added: “Sam is the third of four signings I wanted to make this summer. I hope to announce the fourth and final signing as soon as possible.

“It’s an exciting time for the club at the moment with plenty happening on and off the pitch.”

Meanwhile, former Hythe Town striker, Brendon Cass, 29, has signed for Faversham Town.
