RYMAN PREMIER TITLE DECIDER: We have to be at our best to remove Staines from title race, says Moore

Friday 13th March 2009

SAMMY MOORE is hoping the big-clash with Staines Town turns out to be match of the season at Crabble tomorrow, writes Justin Allen.

Victory for Dover Athletic against their title rivals will not clinch the championship, but should - one would think - end any hopes Staines have of grabbing that number one spot in the Ryman Premier League.

Moore, who has been enjoying a run in the side in his preferred central midfield position, told www.doverathletic.com: "I hope we put in a great performance. We're due one at home, where we've been finding a way to win games without actually hitting top gear. But we're going to need to be somewhere near our best to beat Staines, who are the best side we've played this season by a long way.

"We beat them twice at their place in the league and FA Trophy, but had to work incredibly hard.

"The focus on Saturday will be to win the first and second balls. If we do that, then we can get the ball down and play our football, which is good enough to beat any side in this league."

Staines have had an incredible season - and in any other campaign would probably be cantering to the title themselves.

But Andy Hessenthaler's team have taken the Ryman Premier by storm after only winning promotion from Ryman One South last summer.

And Moore admitted: "You have to take your hat off to Staines. I think the way they keep winning matches with such a big pile-up of fixtures has been eye-catching.

"I was impressed by them, even though we've beaten them twice at their place. Of course, they will be really up for this match and will want to settle a score, as well as give themselve some hope that they can catch us.

"We've obviously got a healthy cushion but in football things can turn around quickly. We just need to concentrate on ourselves and I'm sure everything will turn out fine.”
