Ryman League Cup Draw: Holders Ramsgate handed second derby draw

Friday 05th December 2008

HOLDERS Ramsgate face a trip to Ryman League newcomers Thamesmead Town in the third round of the Ryman League Cup next month, writes Stephen McCartney.

Jim Ward’s men were the first Kent side to win the competition eight months ago when they beat AFC Sudbury 5-4 on penalties after last season’s final - at Dartford’s Princes Park Stadium - finished goal-less after extra time.

The Rams began their defence of their trophy with a convincing 4-0 win over Kent rivals Chatham Town - their first win at Southwood Stadium this season.

Thamesmead Town, meanwhile, won their first ever Ryman League Cup tie in midweek, winning 2-1 at Ashford Town after extra time.

Rikki Cable’s penalty, the last kick of the game, forced extra time and Keith McMahon’s Ryman League Division One North side won the tie, courtesy of Lewis Wood’s 94th minute winner.

Cray Wanderers, meanwhile, will play their outstanding second round tie at Dulwich Hamlet on Tuesday, 30th December.

The tie at Champion Hill was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch last Tuesday.
