We still have a long way to go this season and the squad will continue to work hard and keep improving, says Rusthall joint-boss Steve Ashmore
RUSTHALL joint-manager Steve Ashmore says the season is proving to be a very exciting one for the club.
The Rustics are enjoying their best season as a Step Six club and sit proudly at the top of the Southern Counties East Football League First Division table after 13 league games.
They have won nine and drawn four in their league campaign so far and are five points clear of title favourites Glebe, who have a couple of games in hand.
“We played Erith & Belvedere two weeks ago in the Kent Senior Trophy and came out 2-1 winners, which we felt was deserved,” reflected Ashmore.
“We were off the pace in the first half and didn’t use the ball effectively and it resulted in us going in at half-time one down.
“We spoke to the boys at half-time about us needing to be more sensible in passion and being patient in our build-up play to create more chances.
“They took what we asked them to do on board and were superb in the second half, scoring twice, first through a goalkeeping error and secondly a well-worked goal scored by Calum Gallie.
“We now look forward to playing Lordswood at home in the next round and hopefully we can keep progressing.”
Rusthall host fifth-placed Bridon Ropes at Jockey Farm tomorrow and are enjoying life at the top of the table.
“The season so far is proving to be a very exciting one for the club with us competing high up in the league and still being in the Kent Senior Trophy,” said Ashmore.
“It’s also been great to see the support the club has been getting with our attendances at home games up and everyone getting behind the team, which gives the players’ that extra buzz and long may it continue.
“However, we still have a long way to go this season and the squad will continue to work hard and keep improving.”
