Rushden approach Gravesend's diamond manager

Thursday 07th December 2006

In response to recent rumours, Gravesend & Northfleet wish to confirm that an approach has been acknowledge from their Nationwide Conference rivals Rushden & Diamonds concerning the availability of Liam Daish for the vacant managers position at the Nene Park outfit.

Commenting on the approach, Mr Jason Botley, the chairman of Gravesend & Northfleet, issued a statement on their official website www.gnfc.co.uk.

He said: “This is a positive reflection of Liam’s performance and I am not surprised that other clubs are taking an interest in him.

“However we have no wish to see Liam leave the club and I know that Liam feels the same way.

“As far as the club and Liam are concerned this is the end of the matter.”

Daish is delighted that his future is at Stonebridge Road but wants to secure his star players for next season.

He told BBC Radio Kent: "I just wanted to speak to Jason and make sure we were going the right way.

"I had to ask questions but after that, I was quite settled in my decision.

"Hopefully I'll be able to secure the services of players in the near future, so they will know where their futures lie - and we can go from there."

Daish takes the Fleet to Stevenage Borough on Saturday in sixth place in the table but Diamonds are struggling just one place off the foot of the table.
